Intuitive Surgical designs and manufactures state-of-the-art robot-assisted systems for use in minimally-invasive surgery. Must be concurrently enrolled in a degree-seeking program with an accredited university or enrolled in an upcoming program in the fall.
Primary Function of Position:We are seeking a self-motivated intern to support the Applied Research team in a project focused on integration of 3D computer vision/deep learning methods and technologies with surgical robots towards enabling novel applications.Roles and Responsibilities:The intern will:
  • Leverage a machine vision system and implement 3D motion tracking algorithms for testing on prototype robot hardware
  • Research, design and implement algorithms in 3D computer vision, pose estimation and point cloud registration
  • Experiment with several users and internal advisors to iterate designs based on feedback and performance
  • Document learning and transfer knowledge to the team
Skill/Job Requirements:Graduate level study in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or related
program
Hands on experience with 3D point cloud data (processing, visualization, etc),
registration and pose estimation
Hands on experience with robot kinematics and linear algebraDemonstrated experience with point set analysis and algorithmsStrong software development skills, with experience developing algorithms and
applications using Python/Matlab/C++
Experience with integrating software libraries from third parties into custom applications.Familiarity with integrating machine learning into robotics applications is preferredSelf-starter and able to work in a collaborative and results oriented environmentLearning Outcomes:Opportunity to develop, build, and test prototypes in a corporate research environment.Real-world experience with integrating computer vision and machine learning
technologies into robotic surgery applications.
Work in a cross-disciplinary environment with support from a highly-motivated team of
engineers and clinical engineers
