Fundamentals of Robotic Surgery (FRS)
"The Fundamentals of Robotic Surgery (FRS) is a joint Department of Defense (DoD) and industry (Intuitive Surgical, Inc) funded project
jointly managed through Society for Robotic Surgery and Florida Hospital
Nicholson Center. The project was developed after a gap analysis
revealed that there was a need for a validated multi-specialty,
cognitive, psychomotor and team-based skills training curriculum. This
was developed to ensure that surgeons safely and efficiently perform
robotic-assisted surgery.
Over 60 robotic surgery experts and
academicians from around the world were brought together in a
collaborative effort to meet this need. They participated in a
comprehensive development initiative, which included four consensus
conferences focusing on Outcomes Measures, Curriculum Development, and
Validation Study Design for robotic surgery.
I am proud to have been
a part of this initiative and the resulting program in which you are
about to take part. You will go through four sections of the program:
With
appropriate attention and deliberate practice, this program will help
you improve your knowledge and skills in basic robotic surgery. Your
feedback is always welcome so we can continually improve the program to
best meet the needs of surgeons interested in performing safe and
effective robotic surgery (R. Patel)"
The FRS currently includes four modules:
- 1: Introduction to Surgical Robotic Systems
- Cognitive Instructions for Robotic Surgical Systems
- Technical Skills Curriculum
- Team Training and Communication Skills
