"Advancements in robotic technology have led to the newest Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery (MIRS) that offers solutions to minimize many of the pitfalls associated with traditional surgery. However, the lack of haptic feedback has been a major limitation reported by robot-assisted surgeons. New advances in micro-miniature hermetically sealed, force sensors allow placement of the sensor at the instrument tip allowing point of surgery haptic feedback to the surgeon. This presentation examines the many design challenges that the surgical tool designer must consider in implementing a haptic feedback sensor."
